You are on the BlueCloud Network

IMPORTANT PROGRAM UPDATE!

This program, along with other programs from the BlueCloud Education Network, will soon be updated in order to reflect the latest global standards adopted by the program's advisory board and accredited by the American Academy of CME - AACME. The modernization of this program will enhance competency requirements by global regulatory agencies as well as the global need to follow future security, privacy and the improvement of global 'Inter-Rater Reliability' along with minimizing the potential for fraud and abuse by eliminating redundancies and data duplication.

You will be automatically guided to the new programs without interruption of services and you will also be able to use the same personal BlueCloud account you have previously registered with.

Welcome to the mRS - English Program

This program has been globally harmonized and was specifically designed and developed for the educational benefit of the healthcare provider, the clinical research rater, principal investigator and investigator site clinical trial personnel. Physicians, nurses, first responders and physical therapists may benefit from the training component of this program in order to be familiar with the Rankin Scale mRS. Additional certification(s) may also provide sponsors, managers and regulators with documentation of competency once successfully completed by the healthcare provider.

Program Objectives for Certification

• Understand differences and conflicts between functional grades awarded to patients

• Have observed interviews of patients representing a range of functional outcomes

• Have demonstrated competence under controlled circumstances in applying a score to patients, which is consistent with the scoring algorithm and peer opinion

• Be able to use the scale to score functional recovery of stroke patients

• Be able to document and provide proof of competency to sponsors and regulatory entities within the clinical research setting.

CERTIFICATION: Print certificate of completion good for up to 2 years

IMPORTANT NOTICE:

Beginning in October 2012 the Modified Rankin measure became a required field in Get With The Guidelines®- Stroke. Designated stroke centers are required to retain information about the staff member’s training and competency should states, like the New York State Department of Health, or clinical trial sponsors, national and international regulatory agencies like the FDA request it.

Training Component

The on demand training component of the program is FREE and can be accessed as soon as you create your own personal account. It can be used by any healthcare provider in order to sharpen your skills on the use of the Rankin Scale.

DISCLAIMER

Please be advised that the training component alone may not be enough to demonstrate competency or evidence based education with regulatory agencies.

Certification and Re-Certification programs.

Each certification is good for up to two (2) years and can be used to verify proof of competency as a healthcare provider and as a clinical researcher across multiple clinical trials.

Standardized Methodology and Certification Process

All patients must be scored correctly. The system will limit your attempts to three (3) chances. If you fail to achieve certification after 3 attempts your account will be locked, additional instructions will be e-mailed to your registered account and additional training will need to take place.

You may purchase the certification by going into the 'Product Catalog' at any time. You will be able to access the certification component immediately after purchasing the program. Programs may also be subsidized by sponsors when used for clinical trials purposes. See 'Subsidized mRS Programs' information from the right hand menu.

Clinical Trials - Global Standarization Methodology

Investigators required to certify in use of the modified Rankin Scale often participate in several trials, running across institutions and countries. These trials may each have a different sponsor. It is important that the arrangements for certification remain consistent between trials and among investigators within trials. Investigators who hold a certificate from a source other than this site cannot recertify here or transfer their certificate to a new trial without undertaking full training and certification de novo. This ensures that certificates in existence were based on a common, validated and harmonized approach in order to have consistent inter-rater-reliability during clinical trials. The training and certification material on this site is monitored and updated as necessary to ensure maintain validity.

Sponsors and institutions may use this program to document rater competency and reliability.

A consistent approach to scoring patient recovery is essential for healthcare and research purposes and is desirable for routine clinical application. This training program was prepared by Professor KR Lees in association with the Media Services Department of the University of Glasgow, with the assistance of an educational grant.

The support and co-operation of staff in the Acute Stroke Unit Cerebrovascular Clinic of the Western Infirmary, Glasgow and of Drumchapel Hospital, Glasgow is gratefully acknowledged. Patients shown in the recordings gave consent to use of this material for teaching and research purposes. Unauthorized copying, sale or distribution of the material is prohibited.
